Abasto shopping

One of the main shopping centers in Buenos Aires

Horarios de atención: Monday to Sunday 10am to 10pm

In the neighborhood of Almagro is the famous Abasto Shopping. It is very easy to distinguish by its superb and enormous building: it occupies the whole block of Corrientes Avenue, Agüero, Lavalle and Anchorena. Its building, rightly, holds a lot of history: brutalist style, dates from the end of the 19th century and there was the old Mercado de Abasto, selling fruits, vegetables, meat and fish. In the mid-1980s, with the location of the Central Market on the outskirts of the City, it was decided to close the Mercado de Abasto and the building was closed. But in 1998 it was reborn in the form of a shopping mall, with hundreds of shops, a plaza, a space for mechanical and electronic games for children, the famous Children's Museum, movie theaters and a food court. Today Abasto Shopping is one of the main shopping centers in Buenos Aires. Locals enjoy strolling through its corridors, shopping, taking advantage of the liquidation periods and meeting friends and family to watch a movie or to eat at one of the local fast food restaurants.

Not to be missed: Inside the Shopping Abasto is the Children's Museum. This museum offers visitors a very fun and educational experience for the whole family. Inside there is an interactive recreation of a city, with streets, businesses, hospitals, banks and even a radio and television studio. Children can do adult role play inside this city, trying their luck in different professions, such as doctors, chefs, photographers, announcers, bakers or sailors.
