Unique and mysterious archaeological treasure of Buenos Aires
Horarios de atención: Monday to Friday from 12 a.m. to 4 p.m. / Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Saturdays Closed)
Some centuries ago Buenos Aires was not at all as we know it. One of its most interesting features was the complex of underground tunnels that connected different city places, such as the river, the Cabildo and some churches. And the best place to get to know these tunnels is the Zanjón de Granados. Enter here is to know first-hand a truly unique and mysterious archaeological treasure of Buenos Aires: these passages were discovered in the 1980s and were found covered with earth. While there are several hypotheses about why it was built (smuggling, slave trade, weapons storage, escape routes for pirates or criminals), its stories remain a mystery.
Hint: Information on guided tours can be found here: http://www.elzanjon.com.ar/actualizar/files/horariosytarifas.pdf. These tours focus on knowing the history of underground tunnels. But Zanjón also has within its facilities beautiful halls for events in which the old style of these old passageways was combined with modern and luxurious touches.
